Josh Powell is so thrilled to be starting his tenth year as the choral director at Legacy High School. The Legacy Choirs have a well-known tradition of fine choral singing and musicianship as well as a reputation for creating highly motivated and responsible young adults. Josh is excited to continue and build upon these traditions.
Josh is in his nineteenth year as a music educator. After graduating from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, in vocal music education, he began his career at Liberty Elementary School in Keller ISD. He then spent four years as the assistant choral director at his alma mater, Keller High School, before being named the head choral director at Fossil Ridge High School in 2010. During this time, Josh also completed a Master's of Music degree from Southern Methodist University.
During Josh’s nine years at Legacy High School, the choirs have earned numerous Sweepstakes trophies at UIL Concert/Sightreading competition, won Best in Class and Best Overall awards at state festivals, been named the Overall Winner of the Duncan Oklahoma Show Choir Invitational twice, and had numerous singers selected to All-State vocal ensembles. The Chamber Choir was also awarded the coveted Grand Champion title at the Festival di Voce held at Dallas Baptist University.
When not working with young musicians as a director, clinician, or adjudicator, Josh enjoys spending time with his wife and fellow music-educator, Christi, their 8th grade daughter, Emmie, and their dogs Hildi and Percy.
