-Dr. Loyd Hawthorne-Dr. Loyd Hawthorne directs Voci d'Amici in the summers. Although officially "retired" in 2007 as Director of Choral Activities at HSU after a fulfilling 33 year career at the school, he has hardly retired. From 2008-2009 he served as Interim Director of Choral Activities at Baylor University, and from 2015-2016 he served at ACU as Interim Director of Choral Activities. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Lamar University, a Master of Music degree from Baylor, and a DMA in Choral Conducting from the University of Texas at Austin. He has served as President, Past-President, and Vice President of the Texas Choral Director's Association. He received the Choral Excellence award at TCDA in 2009 for his devotion to the art of Choral Music. For nine years, Dr. Hawthorne lead the Texas Baptist All-State Youth Choir, later known as Master's Voices. In 2014 he received the highest TCDA award, the Texas Choirmaster Award. He is now a nationally recognized clinician and spends his summers leading professional musicians and alumni of HSU, Baylor University, and more with the vocal group Voci d'Amici. He will be working with Legacy Ladies, Chamber Choir, and Varsity Women and we are excited to host him! -North Texas Show Choir Invitational-The Legacy Silver Elite Show Choir will be hosting the North Texas Show Choir Invitational on Friday, February 8, at the MISD Center for Performing Arts. This competition will host over seventeen show choirs throughout the afternoon and evening. Food trucks will be on site for dinner and the Voices of Legacy Booster Club will be selling cookies and merchandise. Entry is $10 per person. We hope you can come out and support this Silver Elite Show Choir either as a volunteer or in the audience at this fun event! -Solo Rehearsals-Mr. Powell and Ms. Lafferty will be available for 15 minute lessons after school on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:00-6:00PM. Sign up sheets are in the choir room. You must sign up for a time and bring your music with solfege written in.

We are excited to host this choir and invite you to read the bio below. "The UTSA Concert Choir, conducted by Dr. Gary Mabry, is an auditioned ensemble that consists of approximately 50 undergraduate music majors. They have performed at division and national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association. The Concert Choir has appeared in concert and workshop settings before the Texas Music Educators Association. In the Spring of 2006 the UTSA Concert Choir toured Europe, performing at major musical venues in Salzburg, Vienna, and Prague. From time to time the Concert Choir will join forces with the San Antonio Symphony Mastersingers and perform a major work with the symphony. The Concert Choir spends several days in the early spring touring South Central Texas or the Rio Grande Valley." -Show Choir-Show choir season is well under way. We invite you to come and enjoy the North Texas Show Choir Invitational on February 8th at the Mansfield Center for the Performing Arts. Silver Elite will perform at the end of the competition but there are many schools performing, food trucks, merch, and entertainment. We could not do what we do here with out your support, thank you! -Solo & Ensemble-On March 23rd Legacy Choirs will sing at Solo & Ensemble. This a wonderful opportunity for individual vocal and musical growth. We encourage all levels to participate. This week we will pass out solos during class to those who are interested. If you sing at Solo & Ensemble you will receive individual lessons with Mr. Powell and Ms. Lafferty, receive points towards a letter jacket, and work on the skills essential for growing in this program and future musical experiences.
